Damir Kapidžić is a professor of Comparative Politics at the Faculty of Political Science and the Head of the Institute for Social Science Research at the
University of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Previously, he was a Weatherhead Visiting Scholar at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs,
Harvard University, and a Fulbright Visiting Scholar. His research focuses on the processes of institutionalization of democratic and authoritarian politics in the
context of ethnic conflicts, power-sharing, and democratic innovations. The key areas of his scholarly research include developments in Southeast European
countries, viewed through comparative perspectives of Southeast Asia, East Africa, and the Middle East. As a consultant, Professor Kapidžić is active in designing
deliberative processes and advocates for citizens’ assemblies, working in cooperation with the Council of Europe, the OECD, and UNOPS. He is a member of the
Advisory Group on the Balkans in Europe Policy, principal investigator of EU Horizon projects at the University of Sarajevo, and editor of the book Illiberal Politics
in Southeast Europe. He speaks and writes in Croatian, English, and German.
